Beyond Woodstock

The Woodstock Music and Arts Festival happened over a half-century ago in beautiful. Sullivan County, NY. The cultural impact of this monumental gathering is like a glorious tree that keeps growing and sharing its fruits as a catalyst and breakthrough moment in music, art, crafts, spirituality, and back-to-nature movements while promoting independence, self-abidance, group collaboration, and peaceful political protest. As the Catskill Public Theater (CPT) approaches our Summer 2025 season, we plan to present a series of skits that expand on the themes and messages that still resonate with the Woodstock phenomena. We envision this production of vignettes being dramatic as well as comedic, presented in a format that will include original content, dynamic multi-media sequences, music of the day, along with visual projections of iconic and previously unseen images taken by the recently discovered photographer, Mark Goff, whose collection is represented by CPT creative director Nick Clemente. To support this production, we are sponsoring a “Call for Submissions” for original ideas that could be part of the short scenes, sketches, and mini-plays, amplifying the Woodstock Festival message. We invite the public to share their direct experience or even their imaginative experiences for inclusion in this play. Any length will work. We encourage expansive, unexpected, and surprising connections to the Woodstock festival. Let your creative flag fly!

o Deadline: January 1

o Application Fee: No Fee

o Eligibility: Submissions will be curated by Jessica López-Barkl and Nick López, Professors of Theater and Speech at SUNY Sullivan. They will chair a jury that will include Nick Clemente and Marshall Shnider, Founding Director of CPT. Selected submissions will be a part of the final production of “Beyond Woodstock” and will be paid an honorarium of $200. All submissions will receive three free reservations for any CPT production during our 2025 season.

Having produced nearly 100 pieces, we want musicals that are diverse and current, that test the musical form and communicate a well-crafted story. We accept musicals across all styles and genres and are happy to consider foreign language and/or bilingual scripts. We strongly encourage submissions from female writers, BIPOC and LGBTQ+ writers. As Theatre Now is an artist service organization and the producer of SOUND BITES, we cover the majority of your expenses and costs. We're the only short musical theatre festival that offers artists honorariums and rehearsal reimbursements for each piece. That being said, there are some out-of-pocket costs depending on your show's requirements (cast & creative team size, number of rehearsals, size of rehearsal space, etc.) and personal choice. Most of these costs relate to specific set-dressing, props and costumes for your show and additional personnel such as musicians.

o Deadline: January 3

o Application Fee: None

o Eligibility: Please review the following criteria thoroughly before sending your submission:

  • Ten-minute musicals will be accepted from September 1st, 2024 - January 3rd, 2025 at midnight.

  • Submissions won’t be considered before or after the deadline.

  • Musical theatre writers can only submit up to two scripts.

  • The story must have a beginning, middle, and end.

  • We accept submissions in foreign languages or that are bilingual. Although the application process is in English, the work itself may be submitted and performed in any other language if selected.

  • Each piece must include music.

  • All submissions must be submitted via this website. No physical copies.

  • Each musical must not exceed ten minutes when performed. If accepted, cuts may be required.

  • Longer one-acts or full-length musicals will not be considered, although the submission may be a 10-minute portion of a longer piece as long as it tells a complete story with a beginning, middle, and end story arc.

  • A musical may be a previously-produced work with a production history.

  • We have no formal script formatting guidelines, but all scripts should be easy to read.

  • The volume of submissions prevents us from providing feedback on all submissions.

  • If your piece is visual (i.e. choreography-heavy), please include video footage or detailed descriptions.

  • We expect to contact all writers by mid-February, 2025 on the status of their submission with one of the following emails:

  • An acceptance email into the festival that will include additional information to confirm their involvement.

  • A waitlist email. In the event an accepted musical declines their participation, a selected waitlisted musical will be notified to serve as a replacement.

Shubert Fendrich Memorial Playwriting Contest

To encourage the development of quality theatrical materials for the educational, community and children’s theatre markets, Pioneer Drama Service is proud to sponsor the annual Shubert Fendrich Memorial Playwriting Contest. This is an ongoing contest, with a winner selected by June 1 each year from all eligible submissions received the previous year.  All eligible plays accepted for publication will be considered contest finalists, from which the winner will be selected.  The contest winner will receive a $1,000 royalty advance in addition to publication.

o Deadline: Ongoing

o Application Fee: None

o Eligibility: You can start the submission process by contacting us here.

  • We will only consider manuscripts with a running time between 20 and 90 minutes.

  • Submissions must be family friendly in both subject and language. NO cursing. NO explicitly adult content.

  • We prefer casts that are either balanced or favoring females. The more gender neutral roles, the better.

  • We favor plays and musicals with ensemble casts, where more than just a few have a chance to shine.

  • Plays with elaborate set, costume or technical requirements are not appealing because of the limited resources of many of our customers. Pictures, sketches or descriptions of your vision are always helpful.

  • We recommend your submissions have had at least one production or reading, hopefully staged. We feel this fundamental field test is necessary before a play can be considered for publication since plays are created for the purpose of performance.

  • Manuscripts must be computer-printed in dark ink. We do not require specific formatting. However, your efforts to ensure your script is free of misspellings and typos will help the submissions editor.

  • We hope that Pioneer Drama is your first choice as a publisher, and we encourage you to submit to us exclusively. However, we do accept simultaneous submissions with the understanding that you will accept the first contract you’re offered and not use the situation to seek multiple offers from which to choose. If you receive another offer, please notify us immediately so we may rescind your submission.

  • The following information must accompany your submission or query:

  • 100-200 word synopsis.

  • Cast list that indicates the number of female roles, the number of male roles and the number of roles that can be performed by either gender. We do not accept one-person shows.

  • Running time.

  • CD and/or score for musicals. We appreciate the opportunity to hear the music, if possible.

  • Set design(s). Please feel free to provide diagrams and/or pictures.

  • Proof of production or staged reading (i.e., review, program, etc.) A DVD of your performance is ideal, though not required.

  • Age of intended audience.

  • A self-addressed envelope of sufficient size with appropriate postage for the return of your materials. We will NOT return manuscripts or accompanying material if this is not included.

  • Cover letter and/or resume.

  • ROBERTA - M40s-60s. Female. White. An iconic-yet-overshadowed American fashion photographer known for her uniquely surreal and expressionistic photographs of women models. A trailblazer in her art form. Self-taught. Laser-focused on her work and single minded about getting the perfect shot. It’s difficult for others to know what she’s thinking, but she’s churning inside. During this shoot, she’s struggling with a painful personal issue, but doesn’t want to talk about it. Smart, precise, formidably talented. Elegant with a hint of punk. Intimidating.

  • CHRISSY - 20s. Female. White. A highly successful fashion model with numerous covers (and lovers) under her very tiny belt. Experienced and constantly in demand. Loves attention. Highly intellectual. An over-thinker. A bit of a Joan of Arc. Always ready to work. Feminist and anarchically inclined. 5’8 or taller.

  • GRACE – Late teens-E20s. Female. Any race or ethnicity. The youngest model at the shoot; this is her first professional job. Curious and unjaded. Unworldly and inexperienced, yet open-minded, brave, and wise. A true artist and lover of fashion. Her mother died, not too long ago. Highly intuitive. Impeccable instinct. 5’8 or taller.

  • SANDY - 30s-40s. Female. Any race or ethnicity. English. A makeup artist and former model. Effortlessly cool, but also a bit of a hot mess from endless late nights at the disco. Likes a party. A vital secret weapon on any shoot, she is the bridge between vision and material expression, photographer and model. Has worked with Roberta multiple times and knows how she works. Unique individual in personality and looks. 5’8 or taller.

Global Film Festival Awards

Welcome to GLOBAL FILM FESTIVAL AWARDS. We're a monthly and annual competition based in Los Angeles. We want the best worldwide film stories to promote filmmakers’ works for distributors. The GFFA is an open door for independent filmmakers. It's a special jury formed by Hollywood producers, European and international distributors to promote films and new media. What's the difference between submitting your project to GFFA and other film festivals? GFFA is not the typical film festival that promotes only local artists. We have an original global channel with partners. To date, our press crew around the world includes press in the USA, Canada, England, Denmark, French, Italy, Spain, Japan, Australia, Argentina, and Brazil. We understand the difficulties independent producers face to have a fully analyzed project. Our judging team is looking for potential films and filmmakers for scheduled meetings with executives from the film and television industry. GFFA is an opportunity for independent showrunners, directors, and producers to meet with a worldwide audience. Every month, our jury will award the best independent filmmakers through private screenings. Every submission can submit to as many categories as fits the film to increase the chances of winning. We also provide honorable mentions for filmmakers who may not necessarily win but who should be acknowledged for their work. All the annual winners receive the prestigious Golden Star trophy, and monthly winners may contact our team to order their trophy and pay the production and shipping costs.
